Description
Polystyrene EPS
Classification
Polystyrene products are classified under the EN 13163 standard into two categories:
- Lightweight polystyrene (EPS)
- Thermal insulation polystyrene (EPS/XPS)
Product Base
EPS Polystyrene (Expanded Polystyrene) is a material produced from styrene polymers through steam treatment and expansion of the granules. Afterward, through pressing or injection technology, a wide range of products is manufactured. The material takes the form of a lightweight white foam, composed of closed cells filled with air, which give it excellent insulating properties.
Use
EPS and XPS polystyrene are widely used for:
- Thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings;
- Packaging and product protection;
- Production of decorative elements and molds;
- Filling of slabs, foundations, roads, and bridges.
Thanks to its low density, the material is used to reduce the weight of structures and to improve foundation performance, also contributing to increased seismic resistance in buildings. The use of EPS and XPS helps lower construction costs, and it is easy to transport, process, and cut.
Characteristics
- Lightweight thermal and acoustic insulation material;
- High resistance to water and moisture;
- High durability and resistance to damage;
- Excellent price-to-performance ratio;
- Non-toxic, environmentally friendly material that does not harm the ozone layer;
- Fully recyclable;
- Very good seismic (earthquake-resistant) properties;
- Does not deform and retains its properties even after many years of use.
Storage The product must be stored in a dry environment, protected from direct sunlight and heat sources.
