House Thermal Insulation: How to Choose the Right Exterior Insulation System
Good thermal insulation is not simply about adding insulation boards to an exterior wall. A reliable insulation project is a complete system in which the adhesive, insulation panels, reinforcement, primer and final facade coating must work together.
For homeowners, contractors and developers, choosing the right house thermal insulation system can improve indoor comfort, reduce unwanted heat transfer and provide additional protection for the exterior envelope of the building. The quality of the final result, however, depends heavily on correct surface preparation and compatibility between all layers of the system.
Eder Trade offers complete thermal-insulation solutions, including the MrFix TERMOPROOF system, with materials designed for the different stages of an exterior facade insulation project.
What Is Exterior Thermal Insulation?
Exterior thermal insulation involves installing an insulating layer on the outside of the building before applying the reinforced base coat and decorative facade finish.
This type of construction is commonly organized as an ETICS system — External Thermal Insulation Composite System. Instead of considering insulation boards, adhesive and decorative render as separate products, ETICS treats them as parts of one coordinated facade system.
A typical system begins with preparation of the existing wall. The insulation panels are then bonded to the substrate, reinforced where necessary with mechanical fixings, covered with adhesive mortar and reinforcing mesh, primed and finally protected with a decorative facade coating.
Eder Trade’s TERMOPROOF approach follows this complete-system logic rather than treating thermal insulation as a single-material application.

Why Surface Preparation Matters
The performance of exterior wall insulation starts with the condition of the wall beneath it.
Old plaster that is no longer firmly attached, dust, contamination and unstable areas should be removed before the insulation system is installed. If the substrate has irregular absorption or requires improved preparation, a compatible primer may be required before the insulation panels are bonded.
Skipping this stage can create problems that are difficult to correct once the complete facade has been installed.
The objective is to create a stable substrate capable of supporting all the following layers of the facade insulation system.
Bonding the Insulation Boards
Within the MrFix TERMOPROOF range, TERMOFIX 300 is a cement-based mortar developed for bonding and levelling thermal-insulation panels. It can be used with EPS and XPS insulation and is intended for insulation cladding systems on appropriate internal and external substrates.
Another option within the system is TERMOFIX 350 RAPID, which is designed for bonding and levelling thermal-insulation panels including EPS, XPS and stone wool, with faster final drying. It can be used on substrates such as render, brickwork and concrete walls when the surface has been prepared correctly.
The appropriate adhesive should be selected according to the insulation material, substrate and requirements of the specific building.
Adhesive application is also important. The goal is to achieve reliable contact between the insulation board and the wall while maintaining a level facade surface for the following layers.
Reinforcing the Thermal Insulation System
Installing insulation boards is only one stage of an ETICS system.
Once the boards have been properly installed, the exterior surface needs reinforcement before the decorative facade finish is applied. This reinforcement helps create a stable base across the insulation panels.
MrFix MESH is a glass-fibre reinforcing mesh that forms part of the TERMOPROOF insulation system. It is incorporated into the adhesive mortar during the reinforcing stage and is suitable for both interior and exterior applications.
Corners and openings require particular attention. Windows, doors and building edges are areas where stresses can concentrate and where careful reinforcement helps improve the quality of the finished facade.
For these areas, FIX CORNER ELEMENT combines a corner profile with glass-fibre mesh and is specifically designed for reinforcement within thermal-insulation systems.
This is why a professional thermal insulation system should not be reduced to the question of which insulation board to buy. Small complementary components can be important to the performance and appearance of the complete facade.
Primer and Decorative Facade Finish
After the reinforced base layer has been completed and allowed to dry correctly, the system moves toward its final protective and decorative surface.
ECOFIX is a primer designed for surface treatment before decorative coatings and is used as part of the preparation for the finishing layer.
The final facade coating provides the visible appearance of the building while also protecting the underlying system from exterior exposure.
One option is DEKOFIX AKRYL, a ready-to-use acrylic decorative coating designed for facades and interior surfaces and suitable as a finishing layer over thermal-insulation systems.
For projects requiring a silicone decorative finish, DEKOFIX SILIKON is another option within the MrFix range and is also designed for use as the final coating of thermal-insulation systems.
The finish should therefore be selected as part of the complete facade specification rather than simply according to colour or texture.
Thermal Insulation Is a Complete System
A successful house thermal insulation project depends on the interaction between several layers.
The substrate must be stable. The insulation board requires the correct adhesive. The facade needs reinforcement with mesh and proper detailing around corners and openings. The reinforced surface then requires appropriate preparation before the final decorative coating is applied.
The MrFix TERMOPROOF system available through Eder Trade brings these stages together with products such as TERMOFIX adhesives, reinforcing MESH, FIX CORNER ELEMENT, ECOFIX primer and DEKOFIX decorative coatings. Eder Trade also presents thermal insulation as a complete solution intended to improve building insulation and contribute to better energy performance.
Choosing products as a compatible system is therefore much more important than selecting individual materials only according to price.
For new buildings as well as facade renovations, evaluating the wall condition, insulation material, required system thickness and final facade finish before beginning the project can help create a more durable and professional result.
For larger thermal insulation and facade projects, Eder Trade can provide product guidance and help identify the appropriate TERMOPROOF components according to the requirements of the building.
